I do agree that it didn't pack any real punch whatsoever. The last 10 minutes were pretty dull, but I thought they showed a much more human side to the show and to Jack. This and the Season 3 finale shows how everything affects him, which we rarely see. This season, he had lost everything. He spent two years getting brutally tortured and he completely died inside. When he came back he served his country as always, and the only thing he received was getting kicked out of the life of the one person he still cared for. This was the only way to end the season and it reflected perfectly on the impact this day had on Jack. He has nothing to live for, and I admire the writers for showing what would realistically happen instead of throwing in some random twist just to have it in there (honestly, the Season 2 finale was just awful).
